The main Galleries sector for Art Basel Miami Beach has been cut by about 10 percent to 204 exhibitors from 226 the previous year while the overall event footprint in the Miami Beach Convention Center will shrink by around 12 percent The Art Newspaper reported on September 29 2026. Organizers have restructured the fair around four hospitality plazas rather than five to create longer sightlines and improve navigation across the single-floor venue. Blue-chip galleries once concentrated in a specific area will now be dispersed throughout the stands a shift that Art Basel said draws on feedback from its selection committee exhibitors and visitors. The changes aim to produce a more focused environment where presentations of varying scales stand in closer proximity.

Director Bridget Finn of Art Basel Miami Beach stated in an announcement on the Art Basel website that the redesign begins with the galleries how their artists and programs are presented and how collectors encounter them. “Our exhibitors have reinforced the value of a more focused environment and the smaller footprint is a deliberate choice in service of that” Finn said in the statement. “Each presentation will have room to command attention. When collectors move beyond familiar routes discovery follows and that is where the most meaningful conversations begin. This is about sharpening the show’s impact and creating the strongest conditions for our galleries to thrive.”

This marks the 24th edition of the fair which Art Basel described as the most important in the Americas and the only one staged on a single floor. The Meridians sector dedicated to monumental large-scale works and introduced in 2019 has been eliminated with Art Basel noting that such pieces can instead be presented within individual gallery stands. More than 30 galleries will participate for the first time the majority in the project-based Nova Positions and Survey sectors according to the exhibitor list released by Art Basel.

Major returning participants in the Galleries section include Gagosian White Cube Pace and Hauser & Wirth The Art Newspaper listed. Several galleries that exhibited in 2025 will not return this year among them Commonwealth and Council and Night Gallery from Los Angeles Gallery Hyundai from Seoul Gallery Wendi Norris from San Francisco Kurimanzutto from Mexico City and New York Pippy Houldsworth Gallery from London and Richard Saltoun and Ellie Rines Gallery from New York. Seven galleries including Pilar Corrias DC Moore Gallery Alison Jacques Edward Tyler Nahem and Mariane Ibrahim have been brought back into the main section ARTnews reported.

The fair which runs with VIP days on December 2 and 3 before opening to the public December 4 through 6 will feature strong representation from Latin America and the Caribbean with Brazil again forming the third-largest national contingent Art Basel figures show. Within the United States the number of participants from Los Angeles Chicago and South Florida has grown with local exhibitors including Fredric Snitzer Gallery David Castillo Gavlak and Nina Johnson returning. Additional first-time countries include Georgia Estonia Hungary Ghana and the Bahamas according to the announcement.

Nova will present 20 galleries with work created in the past three years while Positions features 12 solo projects by emerging artists and Survey includes 16 historically focused presentations by 18 galleries The Art Newspaper detailed. The Kabinett feature within Galleries will offer 28 embedded presentations. Finn told ARTnews that the committee of seven dealers and ongoing conversations with participants drove the streamlining which also enlarges the Digital sector known as Zero 10 under its new name Generation. Past editions of the fair have generated substantial economic benefits for South Florida with the 2024 event producing an estimated 547 million dollars in activity according to the City of Miami Beach.
