An AFAR article released this month describes Charlotte as the Queen City whose art scene is having a moment, spotlighting a blend of established institutions and emerging spaces that have expanded the southern city’s cultural profile. The piece underscores how local galleries and public installations have capitalized on post-pandemic interest in regional travel destinations focused on arts and heritage. According to the publication, the combination of historic venues and innovative programming has positioned Charlotte as a destination worth exploring for travelers seeking authentic cultural experiences beyond larger metros.

Artfacts data places the number of exhibitions hosted in Charlotte at 577 across 17 venues, reflecting sustained activity that aligns with the AFAR assessment of momentum in the local arts community. The Mint Museum of Art is currently featuring Caravaggio: Baroque Masterpieces from the Roberto Longhi Foundation through October 25, one of several major shows contributing to the fall calendar. Shain Gallery has scheduled multiple solo exhibitions in the coming weeks, including works by Andreina Bates opening in early May 2026 and subsequent displays by Christie Younger and France Jodoin.

The conclusion of the Charlotte International Arts Festival after its 2025 edition has shifted focus toward permanent venues such as Blume Studios, which Blumenthal Arts reported drew nearly 100,000 visitors in its first year while employing more than 200 local workers and 30 Charlotte artists. That festival, which began in 2022 and peaked at more than 500,000 attendees by 2024, distributed $515,000 in grants to 50 local artist projects between 2021 and 2025 according to Blumenthal Arts. Its legacy continues through neighborhood events now anchored at the Iron District campus.

Charlotte Studio Artists opened its Black, White, and Everything in Between exhibition on September 17 that runs through November 7, according to the organization’s published schedule. The group, which operates in partnership with the Johnston YMCA in NoDa, also hosts the 3rd Thursday NoDa Culture Crawl and Artist Talk on October 15 along with an Art in the Mix event at Heist Brewery on October 20. Queen City Nerve recognized the studio as Charlotte’s best art incubator in 2025, a designation that complements the AFAR coverage of the broader scene.

An upcoming SouthPark Art Market on October 23 will feature six local artists presenting original works in watercolor, acrylic, oil, embroidery, portraiture and encaustic photography, the event organizers stated in their announcement. The free gathering at a Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices location builds on prior markets that have connected collectors directly with creators. ArtPop, a nonprofit that places original art in public and private spaces across the city, is serving as the presenting partner for the evening.

The Guild of Charlotte Artists issued a call for entries through September 25 for its Narratives juried exhibition at Nine Eighteen Nine Gallery, with the show scheduled to run from November 7 to December 5. Notification to selected artists occurs on October 19, the same day as the current date, followed by a public opening reception on November 7. Such calls illustrate the ongoing infrastructure supporting artists in a city where Artfacts records more than 1,800 artists shown by gender and age demographics across recent exhibitions.
