The third annual Hell’s Kitchen Culture Crawl will offer a full week of accessible arts events across multiple venues starting next week, according to an announcement from the Hudson Yards Hell’s Kitchen Alliance. Programming includes open artist studios, theatrical performances, dance shows and music presentations at locations such as the Baryshnikov Arts Center, Playwrights Horizons, Theatre Row and the United Solo Theatre Festival. The alliance has partnered with these institutions to provide discounts and complimentary access as a way to spotlight the neighborhood’s cultural scene.
W42ST reported that the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts will open 80 artist studios to the public free of charge, giving visitors a chance to observe the creative process and view exhibitions. The open studios event takes place on designated days during the week, with registration encouraged though not required. A host of additional arts programming and interactive activities will accompany the studio visits at the Midtown Manhattan building.
Signature Theatre is participating with discounted admission to its production of Oratorio for Living Things, a music-theater piece created by Heather Christian that blends classical oratorio with elements of blues, gospel, jazz and soul, the theater operator said. The New York Times previously described the show as profoundly strange and overwhelmingly beautiful. Tickets for performances running through the weekend can be obtained for $10 off the base price by using the code Culture10, though fees apply and the offer cannot be combined with other discounts.
The Baryshnikov Arts Center will present a dance program that transforms everyday spaces into areas of healing and belonging while exploring themes of lineage, community and the American Dream, according to event details released by the alliance. Audiences can secure 15 percent off tickets by entering the code BACULTURECRAWL, with a limit of four tickets per order for the Friday and Saturday performances. Similar discount opportunities extend to shows at Playwrights Horizons and other Theatre Row venues.
Attendees who obtain tickets for any Culture Crawl event will be able to redeem their stubs for special deals at participating local restaurants, the Hudson Yards Hell’s Kitchen Alliance stated. The initiative builds upon the two prior editions of the crawl, which highlighted independent arts organizations in an area long known as an Off-Broadway hub. Organizers have coordinated with additional partners including the Mint Theater Company and New Perspectives Theatre Co. to broaden the scope this year.
The week-long format represents an expansion from earlier iterations that focused on a single weekend, W42ST noted in its coverage of the return. Specific schedules for each venue are available through the alliance’s website, where visitors can also find full programming details and discount codes. The event aims to draw both local residents and tourists to experience the depth of cultural activity concentrated in Hell’s Kitchen.
