The Havana-based Fábrica de Arte Cubano received the World Luxury Travel Award 2026 in the Best Art and Culture Experience category during the ceremony at the JW Marriott Bucharest Grand Hotel in the Romanian capital. Founder and musician X Alfonso together with cofounder and general producer Sandra Lopes accepted the honor on behalf of the project. This victory represents the first time the institution has claimed the prize following its initial nomination in the category, the project said in a statement reported by OnCuba News. The recognition celebrates the venue’s distinctive approach to cultural programming that has positioned it as a leading destination for luxury travelers seeking immersive artistic encounters.

According to OnCuba News, the award acknowledges a model that integrates music, visual arts, cinema, dance, theater, photography, design, fashion and gastronomy within one multidisciplinary space. The project places particular importance on creating opportunities for direct engagement between artists and audiences from varied backgrounds. Such programming has helped establish the Fábrica de Arte Cubano as a vibrant hub that extends beyond traditional exhibition formats to foster community interaction and creative exchange.

X Alfonso spearheaded the conversion of a former factory into the cultural center when it opened in 2014, according to the project’s own historical account. The initiative quickly gained traction among both Cuban residents and international visitors to Havana, drawing consistent crowds to its varied events and installations. OnCuba News reported that the venue has earned repeated recommendations from Time magazine for its contribution to the city’s cultural landscape.

Time magazine selected the Fábrica de Arte Cubano as one of the World’s Greatest Places in 2019. The project secured the Premio Excelencias del Arte in 2017 and later obtained TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice award in 2020, which placed it among the top 10 percent of attractions worldwide based on visitor reviews. These earlier distinctions, combined with the latest honor, demonstrate the institution’s enduring international profile within the cultural sector.

The World Luxury Travel Awards recognize outstanding achievements across premium travel and hospitality experiences globally. Cuba has separately earned the title of Caribbean’s Leading Cultural Destination at the related World Travel Awards for five consecutive years through 2025, the Cuban News Agency reported. That repeated success highlights the island’s broader heritage assets and their appeal to high-end visitors, providing context for the specific recognition now given to the Havana venue.

A recent additional accolade came at the Music Cities Awards 2025 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where the Fábrica de Arte Cubano was named the top initiative using music for economic, social or community development. Sandra Lopes stated in the project’s release that the team received the World Luxury Travel Award with enthusiasm and humility. The recognition further validates the center’s role in promoting Cuban creativity on a global stage while contributing to the country’s tourism offerings.
