According to Jammu Links News, Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Krishan Sidha announced several major initiatives to promote art, culture and literature in Pulwama while addressing the annual one-day literary conference at Government Women’s Degree College. The DC pledged to establish a state-of-the-art cultural centre and cultural hall that would serve as a hub for various literary and artistic programs. He also committed to initiating work on the historic Mahjoor House to preserve the legacy of the poet Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor. Sidha further agreed to provide support for literary publications and to organise a dedicated three-day cultural festival titled Waliv Samav, subject to final approval.

The conference was organised by the District Cultural Society Pulwama in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. It drew eminent poets, writers, academicians, journalists, intellectuals and cultural enthusiasts from across the district. Participants engaged in vibrant discussions and presented demands for enhanced cultural infrastructure, to which the DC responded positively. The Academy’s involvement continues its tradition of supporting literary events that enrich the cultural landscape of the Kashmir region.

A notable moment came with the unveiling of the novel Sahib-e-Nigaibaan by Aneesa Anjum, a student of the host institution. The Deputy Commissioner performed the formal release of the book and expressed appreciation for the young writer’s efforts. This launch highlighted the potential of students in contributing to the district’s literary output.

The initiative regarding Mahjoor House aims to recognise the contributions of Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor, who is regarded as a pillar of modern Kashmiri literature. Jammu Links News reported that the DC stressed the need to preserve such historical sites to link future generations with the area’s rich heritage. Similar preservation efforts have been seen in other parts of the union territory through Academy-led projects.

The planned three-day festival will provide a platform for local talent in poetry, writing and cultural performances. It adds to the calendar of events aimed at boosting participation in literary activities. The DC’s announcements are expected to strengthen the overall ecosystem for arts and culture in Pulwama.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioner suggested setting up cultural clubs and book clubs at Government Women’s Degree College at the earliest. This move seeks to integrate literary pursuits into the academic environment for students. The conference served as an important gathering that underscored the district’s active literary community and the administration’s support for its growth.
