LA Metro announced the Metro Art Culture Pass to make arts and culture more accessible to its riders by offering special incentives for those who use the transit system to reach key destinations. The pass builds on the agency’s long-standing commitment to integrating art into the transit experience, according to the official announcement on its website. Officials highlighted that the program allows riders to start their cultural adventures from the moment they board a Metro vehicle.

The initiative targets Museum Row, a hub for world-renowned institutions that can now be more conveniently reached via the E Line or other connecting services. Riders qualifying for the benefits must have used Metro for their trip to the area, with validation through a TAP card tap or ticket. Perks include priority access to exhibitions and member-like privileges at participating venues, the transit authority reported.

Participating organizations have partnered with Metro to provide these exclusive offers, aiming to boost attendance from diverse communities across Los Angeles County. The program aligns with broader efforts to promote equitable access to culture, as outlined in Metro’s arts policy. Data from the authority places the number of annual Metro riders in the hundreds of millions, many of whom can now easily incorporate museum visits into their routines.

Metro Art has maintained one of the largest public art collections in the United States, with more than 200 permanent and temporary works distributed throughout stations, vehicles and facilities, according to the authority. The program dates back to the early 1980s, when the agency began prioritizing the integration of art into infrastructure projects. A Metro Art assessment found that these efforts have transformed commutes into cultural experiences while supporting local artists and community engagement.

The launch of the Art Culture Pass coincides with recent expansions in the rail network that have improved connectivity to cultural corridors. The D Line Subway Extension, which opened earlier this year, has brought additional stations closer to key arts destinations, according to Metro project updates. This infrastructure development has created new opportunities for riders to explore the city’s rich artistic landscape without relying on personal vehicles.

Maya Emsden, the executive officer for arts and community enrichment at LA Metro, discussed how the pass encourages commuters to explore museums and art during a segment with CBS Los Angeles. The program provides special perks at partnering museums along Museum Row for those arriving via Metro. This initiative is part of larger arts programming that includes the Metro Art Bus and various exhibitions.

Further details on the pass are available through the Metro Art website, where riders can find information on current partnerships and how to redeem benefits. The authority encourages users to plan trips using the Metro app or website to maximize their experience. This latest offering reflects ongoing initiatives to position transit as a gateway to Los Angeles’ vibrant arts scene.
