The American Fork Citizen described Regalo Theatre’s two casts as delivering one powerful triumph with their presentations of Twelve Angry Men and Twelve Angry Women. The consecutive productions allow audiences to witness the same script and dramatic tension interpreted by an all-male ensemble in one show and an all-female ensemble in the other. This approach marks the first time in Utah theater history that a single company has produced and run the two versions back-to-back in the same season. The staging underscores differences in how arguments and emotional beats register across gender lines while maintaining the core narrative of a homicide trial jury deliberation.

Director d’Argy outlined the conceptual goals in an interview with the American Fork Citizen. “In staging the same story with two completely separate casts we get two chances to dig into what the play is really asking what does it mean to actually listen To disagree well To take responsibility for the judgments we make about someone else” d’Argy said. “Those questions hit differently in a story built around jury duty around the weight of deciding something that can change another person’s life.” The productions opened earlier this month and have drawn attention for their innovative format at a time when live theater continues to recover audience numbers across the state.

The American Fork Citizen reported that the twin run features a total of 12 performances split evenly between the two shows from Oct. 9 through Oct. 24 at The Hive Collaborative in Provo. Twelve Angry Men is scheduled for Oct. 9 15 17 at both 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. as well as Oct. 19 and 23. Twelve Angry Women performances occur on Oct. 10 12 16 22 and 24 with the same matinee and evening times. The schedule provides theatergoers flexibility to experience both interpretations within a short window.

Reginald Rose’s story originated as a 1954 teleplay before its adaptation for the stage according to accounts from Dramatic Publishing which released the script in 1955. The women’s version employs the identical text but recasts the jury entirely as female delivering the same high-stakes exchanges in a different light. Theater records show that gender-swapped and mixed casts have become common in subsequent decades allowing productions to examine themes of prejudice groupthink and civic duty through varied lenses.

The plays center on 12 jurors weighing evidence in a murder case where initial consensus for conviction erodes through persistent questioning and examination of personal biases. Regalo Theatre’s paired approach amplifies these elements by inviting direct comparison between the casts’ deliveries. Remaining performances continue through the end of the month and the company has made tickets available via its official site for audiences seeking to attend.
